Pet Policy with Bron Afon

We understand the importance of pets in our lives, and we generally allow our customers to keep pets in their home.

What do I do if I want to have a domestic pet in my home?

When you are applying for a home, you must declare any animals you have on your application form. If you want to keep a domestic pet you must ask our permission first.

We will consider the following when deciding upon the type or number of pets in a property.

  • Property size
  • Property type
  • Household occupants / family size
  • Any contract management concerns within the past 12 months (poor condition of property/garden)
  • Species of pet
  • Alterations required to the property to keep the animal ‘well.’

Pets we do not allow.

  • We do not allow any animal listed in the Schedule of the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976, or The Control of Trade in Endangered Species (Enforcement) Regulations, under any circumstances.
  • Dogs listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (excluding those that have gone through the legal exemption process) may not be kept in a Bron Afon property under any circumstances.
  • Dogs that have gone through the legal exemption process (notably XL Bully) OR dogs that are specifically used for working purposes will be allowed be kept within a Bron Afon Property with evidence provided to Bron Afon of the following:
  • Certificate of exemption (with microchip number) to keep an XL Bully dog or other dog breed.
  • Evidence of third-party liability insurance
  • Appropriate equipment to remain compliant with legislation (Lead & muzzle) within public areas.
  • The animal being kept in a safe place so it cannot escape, this may include a secure cage.

Find Answers to Your Pet Questions

If you need information about pets, our FAQs cover the most commonly asked questions. For further support, visit our self-help guides to learn more.

We recognise the many benefits that owning a pet can bring. You need our permission to have a pet in your home.  Your pet cannot be an animal listed in the Dangerous Dog Act 1991 or the Schedule of the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976.

We also appreciate the impact that irresponsible owners can have on the quality of life in our communities.  We can remove permission if your pet is causing disturbance to others or is possibly dangerous. We can also remove permission if there is a cause for concern about your pet’s welfare.

We will investigate any reports of nuisance caused by pets or neglect to pets. This may include working with other agencies including RSPCA, Police and Torfaen Council. We will take enforcement action if we cannot resolve any persistent problems caused by pet ownership.

If you report nuisance, annoyance or disturbance due to noise or animals, we will give you help and advice. We will investigate your complaints and decide what action to take.

Our contract holders are responsible for the behaviour of anyone (including children) and for pets living in or visiting their home.

We will take action if there is any nuisance, annoyance or disturbance for which our contract holder is responsible.
