How do I apply for a joint tenancy?

A sole tenant can apply to have another person added as a joint tenant.  Bron Afon will allow up to four people to be listed as joint tenants within one tenancy.  Please note, joint tenants have equal rights within the tenancy and if the tenancy is ended by one, the tenancy would end for all. Please make sure this is the correct decision for you.

As a sole tenant you can request to add your husband, wife, partner or relative as a joint tenant.

You must be an assured tenant with a clear rent account and no outstanding former tenant arrears or recharges.  You must have good conduct of behaviour, and have no live notices or court orders in place.

The person you’re adding as a joint tenant must be able to prove that they have lived in the property for 12 months, have no outstanding rent arrears or recharges, have good conduct of behaviour and prove that they are eligible for housing in the UK.

To apply for a joint tenancy, complete and sign the sole to joint application.

Your Community Housing Officer will complete an investigation and let you know if the joint tenancy has been granted or refused.  If your application is successful all tenants will attend a sign-up appointment and complete a new joint tenancy agreement.
