What should I do if there’s a fire?

In a house- We share advice from the fire service who say if the fire is inside your home you should leave and call 999.

In a flat- If you live in a block of flats or one of our high rises and the fire is not inside your flat, if you are not in danger you should call 999 and stay where you are until the fire service arrive and evacuate you from the building.

Home safety tips

  • Test your smoke alarm every week.
  • Make a plan so that everyone in your home knows how to escape in the event of fire.
  • Never put your washing machine or tumble dryer on before going to bed or leaving your home for any reason. You can register your appliances here and you will be told about any safety recalls or problems with them.
  • Close all the doors inside your home before you go to bed and switch off and unplug appliances.
