Anti-social Behaviour

Our commitment to addressing anti-social behavior (ASB) stems from our desire to ensure that the homes and communities in which you reside are safe and secure.

At Bron Afon, we prioritise the safety and security of the homes and communities of our residents.

To fulfill our commitment to address anti-social behaviour (ASB), we strive to take appropriate measures in a timely manner, ensuring a peaceful and comfortable environment for all.

What is ASB

Anti-social behaviour is behaviour by a person which causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to persons not of the same household as the person. (ASB crime and policing act 2014. )

Here are some examples of types of behaviour that can be described as ASB

  • Harassment
  • Verbal abuse
  • Violence
  • Intimidation
  • Criminal behaviour including drug use where there is police evidence.
  • Criminal behaviour in a customer’s home or community
  • Noise nuisance (with evidence from the Noise App/noise monitoring equipment)
  • Hate-related incidents
  • Domestic Abuse

What isn’t ASB

Some commonly reported incidents are not regarded as ASB and we can’t help with them. This may because there is no breach of contract. Here are some examples:

  • Parking issues (Including untaxed vehicles unless damaged or dangerous
  • Dirty looks / staring
  • One-off incidents such as a party or BBQ
  • Free roaming pets in gardens
  • Personal disputes and dislikes between neighbours (where no breach of contract)
  • Living noise/ nuisances including cooking smells, flushing toilets, children playing
  • Children playing in the street or arguing

What you can do?

When ASB is persistent, the first thing to try (if it is safe to do so) is talk about it with your neighbour to explain how it is affecting you. This is often the best way of dealing with the issue and to restore your relationship with the neighbour.

As a contract holder, we expect you to stick to the terms of your contract with us. This includes a commitment to not cause ASB.

If you can’t do this, you can contact us for advice.

Other help

Torfaen Council is urging members of the public not to suffer in silence if they experience anti-social behaviour. Incidents can be reported to the Community Safety team at the council, by calling 01495 762200.

Rebecca Bryant OBE, Chief Executive of Resolve said:

“ASB is not low-level. It can have a devastating and long-lasting impact on the lives of victims and communities and can be a precursor to more serious crime.

“It is important that the challenge of ASB continues to be given the priority it needs so that people everywhere feel safe in their homes and communities. “
