Changes to Universal Credit

In March last year, at the beginning of lockdown, the government increased the amount of Universal Credit people can claim by £20 per week. In April of this year, this was extended for six more months, however, it is likely to stop at the end of September.

This means that anyone who claims Universal Credit could lose roughly £1000 per year.

We’d like to know if you, our tenants, were aware of the increase, the upcoming end date, and your wider thoughts around the change. This information will help us to further support our tenants, and we’ll also use it to communicate with the Welsh Government, making them aware of the impact this will have on people in Torfaen.
