£300,000 For Home Insulation
One thousand tenants in Torfaen will enjoy lower heating bills thanks to a £300,000 grant. Bron Afon Community Housing will be fitting loft and cavity wall insulation to the homes to make them more energy efficient.
The money has come from Scottish and Southern Energy (part of the SWALEC group) and they are funding this type of work as they have to meet the government’s Carbon Emissions Reduction Targets.
Work will start on the project in January and be completed by October.
Duncan Forbes, Chief Executive of Bron Afon, said: “Work like that this will help our tenants save cash on heating their homes. Energy efficiency is already a key part of our multi-million pound refurbishment programme. We are fitting new heating boilers to 4,200 homes and new double glazed windows and doors to 5,500 homes.
“So much heat is lost through walls and roofs that we thought it would be a great idea to apply for this grant to invest in our tenants’ homes. Private homeowners can also benefit from our home improvement programme. Our contractors who are working on tenants’ homes have agreed to give discounts to Torfaen residents on windows, doors, kitchens and bathrooms.”
Bron Afon took over the management of 8,000 homes from Torfaen Council in March 2008 following a vote by tenants. |
