Trostrey Sheltered Housing Complex

Residents at Trostrey sheltered housing complex in Cwmbran are surfing the internet thanks to a broadband line fitted in their communal lounge. The 24 residents recently bought a computer with a grant from Awards For All Wales.  Bron Afon Community Housing run the complex and gave them a helping hand by installing high-speed internet access so they could get the full use of their new computer.

Torfaen Voluntary Alliance has now started a weekly computer  class in the lounge so the residents can learn new skills.

Leighton Keenan, ICT Manager at Bron Afon, said: “We were really pleased to hear they successfully got a grant to buy a computer so we decided to give them a helping hand so they can surf the Internet.”

Martin Jones, secretary of Trostrey OAP and Sheltered Housing Complex Lounge Club, said: “We have proven that you’re never too old to learn. Many of our residents are in their seventies and already they are sending emails and producing posters to keep us all informed about events in the complex.”
The club received £830 from Awards For All Wales to buy a computer, printer, desk and a chair.
